All components are machined entirely on site at the Gear Drives facility.
Flywheel is Mr. Warren's original design and is entirely machined on site. This flywheel design allows the use of a lightweight GM or Ford starter on your aircraft.
These engage at 1000 RPM and allows the propeller to be used as a speed brake. The faster you go the more tightly it engages the clutch. Stop the engine and the propeller will spin down like a turbo-prop. This means you can use your propeller as a speed brake if you wish.
Exclusive Geared Drives design, made with precision standards and machined entirely in our Geared Drives facility.
Our propeller shaft is made with precision standards of high grade stainless steel and machined entirely in our Geared Drives facility.
Shafts following manufacture, and prior to heat treating. All shafts are made of high grade stainless steel and heat treated to 195,000 psi. prior to assembly.
Made of high grade heat treated aluminum, our two piece cases are of our own custom design and machined to exacting specifications.
Our PSRU is driven just the same way that an autotive transmission is driven: from an input shaft. This allows the engine to work exactly as it was designed to do, and makes sure that there are no side loads on the engine. This shaft is machined of high grade stainless steel and then heat treated to 195,000 psi. This turns the shaft to a nice bronze color and contributes to corrosion protective qualities.
Shaft is also of our own unique design, machined to exacting standards of high grade stainless steel. Stress releaved surfaces, straight cut splines, and heat treated to 195,000 psi. Our test aircraft flies with a propeller shaft of this design that is ten years old and shows no wear or corrosion.
As you can see, there are no belts or chains in the Geared Drive PSRU. Each and every component was designed with safety and durability in mind.
A series of three spur gears provide the reduction from engine RPM, with the third gear bringing the engine back into proper rotation. These gears are crown cut for strength and shaved to reduce weight.
All bearings are the strongest bearings available, and are designed for long and dependable wear. Our PSRU has two sets of upper bearings set back to back so that the redrive is equally as strong in use with either tractor or pusher configurations.
Geared Drive PSRU is a short 10.25" long from engine surface to propeller bolt on surface. It is shipped assembled with oil pump and lines, and with ports for prop governor and mechanical fuel pump, visible in this photo.
Prop governor and auxillary fuel pump is easily installed in prepared ports for each. Not using a prop governor? Just close off the port with a small metal plate.
