Electric Water Pumps vs Mechanical

So many schools of thought and personal opinion can enter into the mix when designing and building your firewall forward engine package.  With all of the great online aftermarket suppliers of super trick accessories can simply boggle the mind and offer so many cool enhancements that you might be tempted to add to your engine in your airplane...

DO NOT LET AN ELECTRIC WATER PUMP BE ONE OF THOSE SUPER TRICK MODIFICATIONS THAT TEMPS YOU.

There is no satisfactory substitute for the mechanical water pump that is already supplied to you direct from the guys at good old GM.  This pump was designed  to pump water as long as the engine is running and for literally a hundred thousand miles...equate that to flying hours...

Electric water pumps were designed for race cars to flow an incredible amount of water but only for a few seconds at a time.  They were not designed to carry a consistent flow of water throughout the engine for hour after hour, month after month, year after year...

Failure of an electric water pump could be instant, and in most cases, with no warning.   A failure will cause engine overheating instantly and force a landing.  Failure with a mechanical water pump generally happens over a long period of time, after thousands of hours of continuous use, and will give you a clue that it is failing by showing you a little leak at the "weep" hole.  Just like in your car.

IMPORTANT:
Geared Drives will not warrant the installation of any of our engine packages that have had the mechanical water pump replaced with an electric one by it's owner.
